Cue the circus music...

for Gavin, the 15 year old unicycle enthusiast.
It all started on an innocent trip to the DI last summer to look for treasures. The DI is a great way to keep kids busy on those boring summer days when all your friends are busy and you have nothing to do. Who knew we were going to run into the very object that would change the very course of Gavin's life. Okay, it wasn't that amazing, but when he laid eyes on his very first unicycle there was no turning back.
The first week trying to figure it out we heard nothing but frustrated cries of "I'll NEVER get it", or "It's sooooo hard"! Now we are answering polls on facebook about whether or not he should ride his unicycle in the seminary talent show. Answered of course with a "heck yes you should"! How many people can actually say they can do that? I've tried and about killed myself, and I would consider myself pretty coordinated. I'll blame it on my core strength ;)
There are many great reasons to ride a unicycle. It’s great aerobic exercise (have you ever seen a fat unicyclist?, and Gav has lost five pounds since picking up the hobby!) It’s a lot less expensive and has fewer unnecessary parts than a bicycle. And it’s a great way to attract potential love interests (ok, I made that one up).
Next on the list is learning how to juggle. Put the two together and he could work the birthday party scene!

Good for him! I want one for my kids. Actually for me, but I'd use my kids as the excuse to buy one.
Did it take him along time to learn?
