Labor Day Traditions

One of our favorite family traditions is our yearly Labor Day trip up to the Flaming Gorge. My family has a little piece of land in the little town of Manila Utah. My grandpa Jackson bought it in the sixties and it has been a fun place for me to go visit since I was a little girl. About ten years ago my family bought the land from my grandma after my grandpa had passed away and now it’s a fun place for my kids to enjoy and visit during the summer. Even my boys get to enjoy it during hunting season with their grandpa and uncles. It has been such a fun thing for our family to share. I love when my parents, my sister, and my brothers and their kids can be up with us at the same time. We love the memories that we get to make with the people that we love while we are up at the place that my Grandpa made.
On Labor Day weekend, Manila celebrates its town days with an awesome parade that the kids absolutely love. Every parade entry throws about a pound of candy and while the parade is going on there is a local guy who drives his para glider over the parade route dropping parachutes to all the kids. It’s a crazy fun time! We also love the yummy breakfast that we get to eat while waiting for the parade to start. Thanks Kimmie for the yummy muffins, juice, and chocolate moo. You are the bomb.
We also had a great time, as usual, on the four wheelers. They are always a good time. And we love it when we get to go shooting clay pigeons. Shhhh, don’t tell anyone, but the girls out-shot the boys this time. Heehee!
We also love to go fishing and boating (when the boat works!) and canoeing in the little lakes up on top.
I am so glad that my children get to share the same kind of memories that I have of my childhood, and I am so grateful for my parents and how fun they are for my kids. Thanks for letting us enjoy the Gorge with you again this year. We had a great time.

When we saw the 4-wheelers and read about the shooting, we thought "they are just as redneck as we are" We put some miles on our 4-wheelers down in Joe's Valley the same weekend.

There is something really special about sharing your childhood memories, with your own children.....

I am SOOOO jealous! Just think, the whole time you were doing that...I was throwing papers!

I thought the saying went: the family with the biggest muffin to (mamma)wins! We are TOTALLY kickin your butt!

So neat that your kids could be part of such a long standing (old age joke) tradition! I am always the first to bring my kids in on any family tradition Brians family has! They are all such good ones and I am so grateful that they get to be part of something beyond us!
