He has had a lot on his mind the past couple of days worrying about the talk that he was privileged to give in sacrament meeting today. He sure thinks now that that is over he can enjoy all sorts of stuff, like food, sleep, looking forward to the rest of summer. That is a lot of pressure for a kid and now that it's over he can just relax.
He was asked to give a talk on his favorite talk from his very first of many, many priesthood sessions. He chose the talk given by President Uchtdorf, A Matter of a Few Degrees. I am not sure why he was being such a worry wart, he did a fabulous job, and I am not just saying that because I am his mother. I honestly thought he did a bang up job, like a natural.
I learned a lot from Gavin's talk. I know that in my own life it always seems like a matter of just a few degrees that determines my state of happiness or misery. Not only in my spiritual life, but also in my family life with my children and my marriage. I know that when I am not happy, it usually is something that is so minor that makes me feel so far away from where I want to be, like a change in the way I look at or do something that completely determines the outcome. Just like when you get off course just a little tiny bit, even though it's a small error, it can land you pretty far off from your goal. I was so grateful for the reminder that it is okay to make mistakes, we just can't give up when we feel as though there is no way to get back on the right track. You are never so far off course that you can't find your way back.
I just wanted to share my favorite quote from his talk.
"Remember: the heavens will not be filled with those who never made mistakes but with those who recognized that they were off course and who corrected their ways to get back in the light of gospel truth." President Dieter F. Uchtdorf

He did do a great job, and I am not just saying that because i am his neighbor. I was so impressed. Way to go Gavin!!!
Thanks for posting about Gavin's talk and including the quote.
It's what I needed to hear after a woe is me weekend.
I'm glad it's over for him though, I remember the youth speakers--I thought I'd fall over and die when it was my turn.
Gavin,
I am so sad I missed your talk, I was praying for you during sacrament!I really am just in complete shock that my little monkey boy is grown up? He is a "youth" speaker. I am so thankful for your example Gav! And totally feel your relief... what an awesome feeling. I know that you did a super job, because you are a super guy!! Love you so! Kimmie : )
Gavin- you did so great! I loved that talk also. You seemed like a natural up there. I also get so nervous to get up in front of people. I'm glad you can finally eat and enjoy the rest of your summer!
This quote: just what I needed today.
thank you thank you!
good job, Gavin!
I absolutely loved this talk. I am so glad they put all of them in the Ensign. What an important message.
I have got to stop doing so much of the writing of the talks for my kids. However, when the kids ad-lib it can be pretty scary what they come up with.
What a guy! Do you find his spirit intimidating? You are a blessed woman! You have incredible children!
