My Mothers Day

First off I woke up to breakfast in bed, and it was good! Proof can be found on the empty plate sitting on my lap! Thank you chef Gavin and his little sou chefs!

Then I find this sign pointing me to the kitchen for my gifts.

I got this cute banner that says Happy Mothers Day. Thank Sophie!

And cute little notes all over the house.

I got a coupon from Lanie for pretty much anything I want EXCEPT cleaning! In her words..."sorry, I know you want cleaning but I cant afford that with my tight schedule!"

I got other cute cards too, and some original works of art from Grayson (to be scanned in later) and Gentry. This is Gentry's picture of our house...it's a heart...how sweet!

and when I got to church I was surprised with this talk given by Sophie in sacrament meeting...

Good afternoon and Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers.

I hope all the husbands were able to find that perfect gift for the mothers in their lives.  In preparation for this talk I found a list of gifts that might have helped a few fathers and sons out there.  The list is entitled, What Mom’s really want for Mother’s Day...
To eat a candy bar all by herself and to have a diet coke without any floaties in it. To have a cleaning man that looks like Brad Pitt. To sit down and eat together as a family without any discussion of bodily functions at the dinner table. To have everyone wear the same clothes for an entire week so she doesn't have so much laundry to do....
Seriously, when I got the call yesterday afternoon that they needed me to speak today, I was not very happy.  I am not big fan of speaking, but when I heard the topic of my talk, I felt much better.  I love the topic because it is something that I see every day and it is something that I have learned is so very important.  The topic, if you haven’t guessed is on Motherhood and specifically on my favorite mother, Stacy Schmalz.   As I have gotten older, I have really come to better understand how important Motherhood is in our Heavenly Father’s plan for us on Earth.  I have also come to better understand what a great mother I have.   Everything that I have learned and seen has really made me be excited to be a mother myself one day.  I hope that I will be blessed to be the mother that my Heavenly Father wants me to be, which is like my mom.
“There is no role in life more essential and more eternal than that of motherhood,” says Elder M. Russell Ballard.  The mothers divine role in cherishing and teaching her children is so important.  A mother’s role is the most important role in the family.  As we all know, moms make all the difference.  I have learned almost everything I know from my mother and the example she has set for me.
As I get older, my goal of being a mother gets closer.  It is such an important role and sometimes I get nervous thinking about it.  It’s more excitement than nervousness, especially when I think of all that I have learned.  I have been taught how to become a good mother and the importance of it in many ways but there are two very important things that have really taught me.
First would be Young Women’s. Through personal progress and activities we learn how to be good moms. Almost all the values have something to do with motherhood because it is such a divine roll in the lord’s kingdom. I also have wonderful leaders that are all mothers that I see with their kids and they are great examples to me.  Their examples to me and their testimonies have really made a difference as I prepare to be like them
The second and the most important is my own mom.  I have been watching and learning from my mom since before I can remember.  My mom is the best example of a good spouse, a best friend and hard worker. My mother is who I strive to be like. She is a wonderful woman.
She has been with me through the good and bad of growing up and becoming a teenager. She has been there for every one of my performances and concerts or comforted me after a hard day of school.
She has been able to go to girl’s camp with me every year and I’m so glad that I get to share my camp experience with her. When I was working on finishing my Personal Progress my mom helped me with it. I would pull it out and she would sit and work on it with me. She has helped me with every talk I have given so it was kind of hard to not have her help me with this one because I wanted it to be a surprise. Someday when I have kids of my own I hope I can be half as good as my mother.
My mom has prepared me well for becoming a mother. She has showed me all the tips and secrets of being a great mom. I have learned how to cook, clean, do laundry, how to take care of kids, and so much more.
Like when she was teaching me how to sew with a needle and thread and I sewed my quilt to the carpet of her bedroom and she was patient with me and helped me unpick it. Or whenever
I get stuck on a recipe she comes to my rescue. Even her good example to me shows me what I am working to be like.
M. Russell Ballard Says “We need to remember that the full commitment of motherhood and of putting children first can be difficult. We have to recognize that the joy of motherhood comes in moments. There will be hard times and frustrating times. But amid the challenges, there are shining moments of joy and satisfaction”
Mothers are always there for their children, they help them as they grow up. They continue to nurture and support them even when they are grown and have their own children. As we all grow up, we all work towards that goal of having our own eternal family.   I know that if I follow the example of my mom that I will be able to achieve the goal of an eternal family.

I know that my mom will always be there for me, just like she is here for me today.  Thanks Mom!!

Today was a great day!
