Happy to report that...

Help in on the way! I have been really worried about this little guy lately. He is really struggling with his speech and in a way, so am I. I know the worst thing a mother can do to her children is to compare them with their siblings. I have tried so hard to just focus on the other great things he does. His "special" skills, like him walking at eight months and being completely potty trained at twenty one months, his numb chuck skills and his bow staff skills. I have tried so hard not to be thinking to myself that when his brothers and sisters were his age I was having full blown conversations with them. Gentry, not so much!
Well, we had a gal come from a program called Kids on the Move this past week. She played with him and talked with him and gave him a little test that shows us where he ranks with other kids his age. He is not all that bad off and they gave me some great suggestions in ways that we can be helping him. She thinks that all he needs is a little speech therapy and he will be talking so much that we wont ever know that he was a non talker. The thing about him is that he really tries so very hard to make me understand what he is saying and I try so hard to understand him but I am not getting it. I guess he flips his B's and his D's and his S's and his T's. Crazy talk! That seems to be causing a lot of frustration on both of our parts. We are both going to go crazy without a little help. I am so confident in the therapy working. He is such a smart little guy. I know he will do great. The other great thing that they are going to do is have a hearing specialist come and check his hearing. I don't think that is what his problem is because he is so good at following directions that I swear he hears just fine, but I am so happy that they are going to rule it out and so happy that help is on the way.

Glad to know he has numb-chuck skills! I cannot believe he was potty trained at 21 mo. Landry hasn't really even show much interest yet. Hopefully before the baby comes!

We had them come out and evaluate Ben and he started talking before they even came for any sessions, so maybe he's just on the verge. I've heard great things about the program. Good luck!

I think the best thing we did for Sam and Jac was to have the school dist evaluate them and get them started young in pre-K with speech. Jac started at 2 yrs 11mo.
don't worry he'll be talking before you know it.
