Grandma's Big Soft Sugar Cookies

One of the great things my mom will be remembered for long after she leaves us (and she is going nowhere any time soon, or I will kick her butt!) is these beauties. Ever since I can remember my mom has been the BEST sugar cookie baker, among many other things. The cookies are always BIG, always SOFT, and always PINK with pretty colorful sprinkles, with the exception of Halloween when the frosting turns orange and the sprinkles turn chocolate. This is one of the things that I want my children to always remember about grandma. I hope that preserving her recipe will be like preserving a little bit of her and it will help pass on the sugar cookie grandma tradition. I know I am already planning on being a sugar cookie grandma and if I can master these the way my mom has then my little grand kiddos will be sooo lucky! I love these simple little cookies filled with love...

1 c. White sugar
1/2 cup Butter (softened)
1/2 cup sour cream
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
1 egg
2 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
Mix the sugar, butter, sour cream, vanilla and egg together.  Stir in the remaining ingredients.  Refrigerate for a couple of hours or overnight.  Roll out to 1/2 inch thick, you'll probably need more flour.   Cut cookie into desired shapes (grandma always makes just plain old round ones).  Bake  at 400 degrees on an ungreased cookie sheet for about 7 or 8 minutes. Don't let them brown.

Frost with cream cheese frosting.

Enjoy!!!

I cannot make sugar cookies to save my life. I can't explain it. Maybe I need some tutoring from your mom...

They look a lot like Granny's ... do they taste similar?

How sad is it that I can't think of a single recipe from my mom?

Yummy! I would eat them all the time. Luckily I don't have all the ingredients or I'd be making them now!
