The Switcharoo

In one of my moments of frustration about the state of unorganized chaos that has been the Schmalz house as of late, I came up with a plan to start getting things more organized. Completely switching the kids rooms around was the "plan". Now the house just looks like the kids rooms threw up on the rest of the house and all the junk that was in their rooms is now overflowing into every other room. So much for that plan! By switching them around, I mean the boys room became the girls room, and the girls room became the boys room. The reason for the switch was the layout of the rooms never seemed to work, even though they are the same exact size. Location of the closets and windows and such just made more sense with the furniture that the girls have. In the old room, you couldn't pull out Lanie's trundle bed without covering up a heating vent or having to push furniture out of the way.  It was really getting to be a pain. Besides, the boys room had a bigger closet. You know girls and their closet space, right? It's a must! I wished I had taken a before photo of both their rooms, but was just peeling the last cute flower off the wall in the girls room when the thought crossed my mind.
After some serious de-junking and a few gallons of paint later, this is what we came up with. Soph and Lanie picked a lime green wall and a darling new bedding set. Sophie used her own money to redecorate, so we let her pretty much pick whatever she wanted. I was little nervous about the lime green, but once it was up and we had her new bedding in the room, I think it's darling and so cheerful.

And for the boys... What was once a cute baby blue room with white flowers covering the walls, is now botany beige and white. Pretty boring for right now, but the color will be added to the bead board later when mom is not all painted out. I'm tired!

And everyone is pretty pleased, including Gentry.

When is it okay to have a yard sale to unload all my junk? Is February too soon?

That looks like a lot of work. I'll have to get the full tour on Saturday.
